Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones Proclaims Dec. 15, 2010 as Richmond Tacky Light Tour Day

Richmond, Va. – In conjunction with Winn Transportation’s commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the very first Richmond Tacky Light Tour, the Honorable Mayor, Dwight C. Jones has made it official. WHEREAS, originally called “Richmond’s Tacky Xmas Decoration Contest and Grand Highly Illuminated House Tour,” the Richmond Tacky Lights Tour was founded by local radio deejay, Barry "Mad Dog" Gottlieb in 1986; and WHEREAS, Richmond, Virginia was recently recognized by BusinessWeek as "the capital of the lighting universe" for its lighting decorations and Forbes Magazine ref erred to the area lights as a "Christmas beacon"; and WHEREAS, celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Tacky Light Tour will recreate its first tour on Wednesday, December 15; and WHEREAS, in commemoration of the 25th Tacky Light Tour, founder Barry "Mad Dog" Gottlieb will travel from San Francisco to escort the 2010 tour on December 15; and WHEREAS, the original tour attendees will help celebrate the 25th tour, along with the tour’s host and founder, the original bus company, Winn Transportation and new Tacky Light Tour Enthusiasts during a complimentary tour; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dwight C. Jones, Mayor of the City of Richmond, Virginia, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, December 15, 2010 as
RICHMOND TACKY LIGHT TOUR DAY
in the City of Richmond and encourage all residents of our great city to embrace this holiday tradition and welcome all visitors to enjoy the spirit of the tour.
